چکیده

Single- and multi-walled molybdenum disulfide (MoS$_2$) nanotubes have been coaxially grown on small diameter boron nitride (BNNTs) which were synthesized from heteronanotubes by removing single-walled carbon (SWCNTs), systematically investigated optical spectroscopy. The strong photoluminescence (PL) MoS$_2$ supported core BNNTs is observed in this work, evidences a direct band gap structure for with around 6 - 7 nm diameter. observation consistent our DFT results that the nanotube changes an indirect-gap to direct-gap semiconductor when of more than 5 nm. On other hand, there are SWCNTs inside nanotubes, PL signal considerably quenched. charge transfer energy between examined through characterizations PL, XPS, Raman Unlike do not emit light. exhibit different features both resonant non-resonant spectra. method assembling using as templates provides efficient approach exploring electronic properties transition metal dichalcogenide nanotubes.

Heteroepitaxial Growth of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes from Boron Nitride

The growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with predefined structure is of great importance for both fundamental research and their practical applications. Traditionally, SWCNTs are grown from a metal catalyst with a vapor-liquid-solid mechanism, where the catalyst is in liquid state with fluctuating structures, and it is intrinsically unfavorable for the structure control of SWCNTs....

Superhydrophobicity of boron nitride nanotubes grown on silicon substrates.

Partially vertical aligned boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) on Si substrates are found to be superhydrophobic in contrast to boron nitride (BN) thin films. While the hexagonal-phase BN films are partially wetted by water with advancing contact angle of about 50 degrees , partially vertically aligned BNNTs can achieve superhydrophobic state with advancing water contact angle exceeding 150 degrees...

Growing Carbon Nanotubes within Boron Nitride Nanotubes

The controlled synthesis and growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been a long standing challenge in the fabrication of carbon based materials for electronic applications. Due to the sensitivity to small changes in their structure, the successful integration of CNTs on electronic devices is conditioned to the preservation of the graphitic network of single and multiwalled nanotubes from externa...

Environmental effects on photoluminescence of single-walled carbon nanotubes

Spectroscopy is a powerful technique to characterize single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). In particular, photoluminescence (PL) and the excitation spectroscopies have made a great advance in understanding the energy states and transition processes of excitons in SWNTs. The PL spectroscopy also has a potential to assign the chiral index (n,m) of a SWNT and to evaluate the abundance of (n,m) i...
